Alan's love for contemporary jazz band music began in high school, developed in college, and blossomed as a young man playing gigs as a bass trombonist with various groups in New York City. He has always adored the innovative arrangements of Thad Jones and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, among many others. Since the 1990s, Alan has composed and arranged numerous jazz band scores suitable for both college and professional groups.
